About the event
Do your children love art, creativity and the natural world? Would they benefit from a morning of calming, sensory activities that unlock their creativity and spirit?
HorseSense UK has teamed up with Katharine Jennings Fine Art Studios to provide an incredible experience for nature-loving children - the opportunity to learn how to draw horses from a professional artist with horses as live models!
Let your child unlock their natural creativity and expression through sensory time in nature, learning drawing techniques and ways to express themselves whilst socialising with other children and hanging out with a herd of horses.
Why attend:
Horses are naturally calming and engaging to be around. Their cheeky and curious nature helps children to unlock their potential and tap into the best parts of themselves. Powerfully liberating and comforting to be around, horses neither judge nor criticise, instead offering a psychologically safe space for people to be themselves and discover their gifts and talents.
Art helps us to explore, experiment and engage with the world in new and interesting ways. Learning new skills, unlocking creativity and building confidence goes beyond creating and enjoying art. Art is the foundation for success in life, whether it's in taking part in something obviously art-based like fashion design, coming up with solutions in disciplines such as engineering or therepeutically being mindful and expressing our feelings.
By creating a safe, empowering and social space, children are able to exercise their immagination muscle, build heartfelt connections with others and transcend their limits.
What to expect:
Once your child has arrived and been introduced to the group we will spend some time with the herd learning about horses natural behaviour, safety around horses and how to read their body language.
The first art session will be how to draw horse shapes using charcoal out with the horses. As the children are working, the horses will be at liberty enabling them to interact with the participants and potentially add their own contribution.
Then there will be a short break where your child can have a snack (please provide them a packed lunch) followed by the chance to have a go at negative space painting before lunch with the herd.
All pieces created will be available for the children to take home at the end of the day as a momento of their experience.
About
Katharine Jennings:
Katharine has been a professional artist for around 30 years, specialising in portraiture and more recently, landscapes and still life. She works mainly in oils, her favourite medium, but has dabbled in all media.
Katharine comes from a long line of artists and entrepreneurs. Growing up in Kent and Sussex, Katharine was surrounded by artistic talent from both her mother, a professional florist and grandfather, the co owner of A & H Graphic Design Studio in London. Katharine went on to do a foundation diploma at Hastings College of Art and Design, before changing course completely and qualifying as a Property Lawyer in 2008.
In 2018, she started to run her own art studio in Rotherfield, East Sussex, with the view to encourage others to become creative. Since then her business has continued to grow and now has over 70 students visiting her studio on a weekly basis of all ages. Katharine has done countless commissions and exhibited widely, with her work in collections all over the world including Australia and Switzerland. She also created and runs the very popular Little Leonardos Art Club for children aged 5-11 years.
Little Leonardos Art Club:
Little Leonardos Art Club has been running for nearly 6 years in Rotherfield, East Sussex. We believe that children with more art in their lives become more confident, comfortable and creative in all aspects of their lives. Our art club allows children to explore and discover things about themselves in an environment free from targets, judgment and pressure. It builds perseverance, critical thinking and problem solving skills, which will benefit them in any career path they choose.
Becci Godfrey:
Becci grew up surrounded by nature and the countryside, first in Kent, then later in Sussex. A passionate advocate of combining health and wellbeing practices with nature and being outdoors, she first completed a degree and a career in Environmental Biology at Nottingham University before goingon to advise farmers on sustainable ecological practices to supported conservation and wildlife. Her own health challenged (chronic fatigue) and interest in health led her to retrain to become a health and wellbeing, and equine facilitated practitioner in 2010. Supported by her herd of New Forest ponies, she aims to provide the ideal environment for children and adults to reconnect to themselves and the world around them to experience more harmony and calm.
