NHS Wellbeing Days

When the pandemic hit in 2020 it became very clear that those at the frontline, the UK's National Health Service (NHS), were going to need the same kind of support and rehabilitation that is normally only reserved for veterans of the armed services.

Jim, a medic's horse, in particular had a strong desire to offer health and wellbeing support to those spearheading the pandemic efforts. Honouring his passion, we set about fund raising and created links with sympathetic Wellbeing Officers within the NHS to offer a series of Thank You wellbeing days, sharing content from our Leadership and Wellbeing programmes.

Both the Royal Marsden Hospital (London), Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells and East Sussex NHS Trusts accepted our offer and coupled this with funding of their own to put on additional sessions.

The days were exceptionally well received, with benefits hitting on a multitude of levels from realising strengths, restoring faith in colleagues and knowing how to be more effective as a team. Attendees were keen that more of these sessions were made available to colleagues to improve moral and wellbeing at work, as well as teach valuable leadership skills.

We continue to explore ways in which this scheme can be extended, so that more NHS staff that would benefit with leadership and wellbeing time with horses can have access to this profound and holistic approach.
