NHS Wellbeing Days
When the pandemic hit in 2020 it became very clear that those at the frontline, the UK's National Health Service (NHS), were going to need the same kind of support and rehabilitation that is normally only reserved for veterans of the armed services.
Jim, a medic's horse, in particular had a strong desire to offer health and wellbeing support to those spearheading the pandemic efforts. Honouring his passion, we created links with sympathetic Wellbeing Officers within the NHS and asked if we could gift a series of Thank You wellbeing days, sharing our Art of Leadership programme.
Both the Royal Marsden Hospital (London) and Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust accepted our offer and choose to part-fund additional days to increase capacity.
They days were exceptionally well received, with benefits hitting on a multitude of levels. We continue to explore ways in which this scheme can be extended, so that more staff that would benefit with wellbeing time with horses can have access to this novel and holistic approach.
"A break everyone in the NHS needed. Everyone should have, at least once, a chance to walk in wilderness with majestic yet cute horses."
"A card to say thank you for a lovely day on Wednesday. I really enjoyed my day. It was a great experience and I'm very grateful."
